In the latest articles, I shared with you some methods of making a favorite food healthier, to make possible enjoying such foods completely guilt free. In today’s post, I would like to talk about an issue that many people are facing today: spending too much money on eating out. By choosing to eat at home, you can end up with plenty of money in your pocket, but the question is: how much can you really save by eating at home?snacks

When I thought about saving money by eating at home, the first thing I did was to write down everything I bought as food and drinks when outside the home. And I am talking about everything. You would be surprised to see how much money you can end up spending on snacks and diet cokes alone. While they may not seem like real food – which they aren’t – they still go inside your belly, and they still cost you money, and added up, you can easily see that you can spend quite a lot of money on trifle things like this.

Fruits and veggies are available in both fresh and canned format, and if you get enough ingredients for fill your pantry and your refrigerator for an entire week, you will notice that you will spend less money every day.

Here is another tip I have adopted and I am sticking to, in order to save money by cooking at home: I have a scheduled menu for the entire week. Although this may sound a bit too boring and too predictable, the truth is that I save a lot of time by knowing exactly what to cook and how to cook. Secondly, I cook food for 2 or 3 days so that I do not have to spend a lot of time cooking every day.

So, you may still wonder how much money can be saved by eating at home? According to my calculations, in a year, the savings amount can range from several hundreds to several thousands of dollars. As anything in life, eating out is more of a habit than anything else, and you can drop it, as you would any bad habit that you know it is wrong and bad for your health and for your finances.

I hope this post motivates you to start cooking at home and saving money on the long run.
